Tapovan

In the lineage of Lord Dattatreya the service to Gomata (service to Holy Cow) holds as much importance as the Vedic service . For the this reason Tapovan was built in 1993. About 6kms away from Shri Datta Devasthan, on Aurangabad road exists Shriman Nrusimha Saraswati Tapovan ( A peaceful place like a mini forest or garden for penance). H.H. Sadguru Shri Ramkrishna Kshirsagar Maharaj frequented this place daily in the afternoon for a stroll .

This place holds the cattle wealthof Shri Datta Devasthan, There is a cowshed here. It houses around 70 cows today. The milk from these cows is used for the students of Vedant Vidyapeeth (University of Vedas) and for the Abhishek (Sacred Bath) of the deities of Shri Datta Devasthan. Like Lord ShriKrishna (who was the eighth child by birth), H.H.Shri Sadguru's divine nature was known to the animals as well. As soon as Gurudev's vehicle turned on the road to Tapovan from the main Highway, the cows used to start mooing to welcome him before his arrival. Shri Sadguru caressed the cows with his own divine hands fed every cow with great affection and and would affectionately call them . Especially after Gurupournima Sadguru used to stay and rest here at Tapovan. Donation of cattlefeed or Cows to the Cowshed here is opportunity for devotees to reduce their Dosha (Impurities).

Yet another significance of Tapovan is the Dakshinabhimukh Vijay Maruti Temple (South Facing Temple Of Victorious Lord Hanuman). Sri Lanka Lies to the south of Bharat(India). Lord Hanuman had flown to Lanka in search of Mother Sita and had emerged victorious from there hence south facing Lord Hanuman is called Vijaya Maruti . One amongst the seven immortals, symbol of Power and originally the swaroopa of Lord Hari, the Idol of Lord Hanuman here is as prescribed in the shastras. A Demon below one of his feet, Left hand holding a mountain and a mace in the right hand with his tail above his Head is the statue of Lord Hanuman. Daily morning -evening the Deity of Lord Hanuman is worshipped according to Vedic rituals here. The Festival of Hanuman Jayanti (Birth of LOrd Hanuman) is celebrated with great enthusiasm here. Devotees can worship Lord Hanuman here by performin Rudrabhishek, Laghurudra on Vijaya Maruti here.

H.H. Sadguru had indicated that Tapovan would be his abode of eternal residence. On the 14th day of the second fortnight of Shravan month of the Hindu Calendar Shaka 1921, on 8th September 1999 Sadguru left for his Heavenly Abode. HIS last rites (Agnisanskara) were performed here in Tapovan and the devotees resolved to build a temple here as a reverance to H.H. Sadguru. After Shri Dattakshetra's creation in 2007, the work of Smrutimandir at Tapovan began. The place where Sadguru's final rites was performed was filled with Holy Mruttika (holy sand) from pious rivers and on 20th July 2011 the foundation of the Smruti mandir was laid as prescribed by the Shastras. In next two years the work of Smrutimandir was completed.

In the period of Uttarayana (northward movement of the sun) on the 9th day of the second fortnight of the Hindu month of Jeshtha Shaka 1935 on 2nd June 2013, the consecration of the padukas ( symbolic feet of Holy men) at Smrutimandir TApovan was done and Smrutimandir was opened to the devotees for Darshana. For around five days of this festival various Yagas like Gana Homa, Sudarshana Yaga, Sahasrachandi Yaga, Datta Yaga, Hanuman Yaga, the conseceration of Vastupurusha (ritual of initiation of the diety of the architecture), Dharmadhvajaroha( Hoisitng of the Flag of Dharma) and many religious rituals took place and the padukas were consecrated here.

Till date the Padukas are worshipped morning-evening as prescribed by the Vedas. At this eternal resting place of H.H. Sadguru even if a devotee stays for a moment, his internal turbulence is put to rest and he experiences a divine peace. Devotees can render various religious services like Pavaman Abhishek, Laghurudra etc. by sankalpa pooja on these padukas.
